CLAUDE TIPS · CLAUDE CERTIFIED ARCHITECT
Everyone wants to be a Claude Certified Architect. However, most people need to be an Associate first. This guide walks through all four Claude certifications in the order that builds real skill. You will see who each exam is for, what it costs in pounds, and what is free. Finally, five prompts turn the plan into a weekly study routine you can start on Monday.
At a glance
- Join the Claude Partner Network through your business, because every exam sits behind it. Joining is free.
- Take Claude Certified Associate, Foundations first, for practical everyday use of Claude. About £75.
- Then take Claude Certified Developer, Foundations, for building with the Claude API, tools and agents. About £95.
- Next comes Claude Certified Architect, Foundations, for designing whole agent systems. About £95.
- Finally, Claude Certified Architect, Professional covers enterprise scale, governance and evaluation. About £132.
The whole route: about £397 in exam fees, if you pass each exam first time. Prep courses cost nothing.
What the Claude Certified Architect Film Is Really About
The film opens with a theory. Everyone wants to be an architect, yet most people need to be an associate first. Within a week of the announcement, half of LinkedIn was aiming for the top credential. That includes people who have used Claude to write one birthday message.
Then the film turns to the medieval guilds. You started as an apprentice and worked for years under a master. To become a master yourself, you submitted one piece of work. That is where the word masterpiece comes from. It was not your best work. It was your entry exam.
So the point of the film is simple. The right certificate is not the biggest one. Instead, it is the one that matches your Monday. This guide follows the same idea, one level at a time.
Step 1: Join the Claude Partner Network
Every Claude exam is open only to people at a Claude Partner Network organisation. Anthropic opened the network on 12 March 2026, and membership is free. It is for any business that brings Claude to clients, from a global consultancy to a two-person studio.
In practice, this step catches more people than any exam. You register with a company email address on a domain linked to your partner record. A personal Gmail address will not work. Adding a new domain through partner support can take seven to ten days, so start at the Claude Partner Network page before you book anything.
Once you are in, the Anthropic Partner Academy opens. It holds an official prep course for each certification, free for partner members. Anthropic’s open courses are free too, including Claude Code in Action, Building with the Claude API and Introduction to Model Context Protocol.
Cost of this step: free.

Prompt 1: The Partner Network Request
Use this when your employer is not yet in the Claude Partner Network.
Write a short email to [MANAGER OR FOUNDER NAME] at [COMPANY NAME] asking us to join the Claude Partner Network. We use Claude for [THREE REAL USES, FOR EXAMPLE CLIENT REPORTS, CODE REVIEW, CONTENT PLANNING]. Explain that membership is free, that it unlocks the official Claude certifications and free training, and that I would like to sit [CERTIFICATION NAME] by [MONTH]. Keep it under 150 words, in British English, with one clear request and no hype.
Step 2: Claude Certified Associate, Foundations
The Associate exam validates practical, everyday use of Claude. According to Claude’s own guide to the four certifications, it suits consultants, project leads and business staff. In other words, it is for the person who actually keeps the project moving. No coding is required.
Like every Claude exam, it runs for 120 minutes through Pearson, online or at a test centre. It is closed book and proctored. Furthermore, you need 720 out of 1,000 to pass.
Cost of this step: $99, about £75.
For a creative studio, this is the natural first credential. If you already keep a prompt library for client work, you are halfway there. The method is in how to build a prompt library for your projects.
Prompt 2: Which Certificate Matches My Monday
Use this to choose your real starting point before you pay for anything.
Here is what I did with Claude in my last five working days: [LIST REAL TASKS, ONE PER LINE]. Here are the four Claude certifications: Associate, Foundations (everyday practical use); Developer, Foundations (building with the Claude API, tools and agents); Architect, Foundations (designing agent systems); Architect, Professional (enterprise scale, governance and evaluation). Tell me which one matches my current work, which skills I am missing for the next level, and three tasks I could do at work this month to close that gap. Be honest if I am not ready.
Step 3: Claude Certified Developer, Foundations
The Developer exam is for engineers building applications with Claude. Training covers the Claude API, tool use and agent development. If you have never written code against an API, give yourself time here.
This is also the step most people want to skip. However, an architect who cannot build is only drawing plans. Therefore, the Developer level is where your later system designs become believable.
Cost of this step: $125, about £95.
Prompt 3: The Four-Week Study Plan
Use this with the official exam guide for any of the four certifications.
I am preparing for [CERTIFICATION NAME]. Here are the exam domains and their weights from the official guide: [PASTE DOMAINS AND PERCENTAGES]. I have [HOURS] hours a week for [NUMBER] weeks. My strongest area is [AREA] and my weakest is [AREA]. Build a weekly study plan that gives the most time to the heaviest domains and my weakest area. For each week, name one free course module, one hands-on task in Claude and one self-test. Finish with a list of what to review the day before the exam.

Step 4: Claude Certified Architect, Foundations
This is the credential most people mean when they say Claude architect. It was the first Claude technical certification, live for partners from March 2026. It is aimed at solution architects who design and build agent systems with Claude.
The exam has sixty questions in 120 minutes, and the pass mark is 720 out of 1,000. Its weighting is clear about where the work sits:
- Agentic architecture and orchestration, 27 per cent.
- Claude Code configuration and workflows, 20 per cent.
- Prompt engineering and structured output, 20 per cent.
- Tool design and MCP integration, 18 per cent.
- Context management and reliability, 15 per cent.
Anthropic recommends at least six months of hands-on experience with the tools before you sit it. Also note that the fee rose from $99 to $125 at the end of June 2026.
Cost of this step: $125, about £95.
Prompt 4: The Practice Question Drill
Use this after each study week to find the gaps the exam will find.
Act as an examiner for [CERTIFICATION NAME]. Write [NUMBER] scenario-based multiple-choice questions on the domain [DOMAIN NAME]. Each question should describe a realistic client situation, offer four options, and have one best answer. Do not show the answers yet. After I reply with my choices, mark them, explain why each wrong option is wrong, and name the one concept I should revise first.
Step 5: Claude Certified Architect, Professional
The Professional exam is the deep end. It covers integration architecture, governance and evaluation at the scale of large enterprises. It is the only professional-level Claude credential, and the first ones were issued in July 2026.
There is no formal prerequisite. Even so, the independent guides suggest several years of systems architecture work and six months of Claude in production first. In short, this is the masterpiece from the film. It proves work you have already done.
Cost of this step: $175, about £132.
Prompt 5: The Masterpiece Brief
Use this to plan one real project that proves your level before you sit the exam.
I want one portfolio project that proves I can work at the level of [CERTIFICATION NAME]. My context: [YOUR ROLE, YOUR CLIENTS OR TEAM, THE TOOLS YOU HAVE]. Suggest three project ideas that solve a real problem for [CLIENT OR TEAM]. For the best one, write a one-page brief: the problem, the agent design, the tools and MCP servers it would use, how I would test and evaluate it, the risks, and what I would show a client at the end.
What the Whole Route Costs in Pounds
Here is the full route at list price, converted at about 76p to the dollar in early October 2026.
- Claude Partner Network membership: free.
- Prep courses in the Partner Academy and Anthropic’s open courses: free.
- Associate, Foundations: $99, about £75.
- Developer, Foundations: $125, about £95.
- Architect, Foundations: $125, about £95.
- Architect, Professional: $175, about £132.
Altogether, that is $524, or about £397, if you pass each exam first time. Because fees are charged in dollars, your card may add a small conversion fee.
Retakes cost the full fee again. After a first fail you wait 14 days, then 30 days, then 90 days. You can sit the same exam four times in any twelve months. Each credential lasts twelve months, and renewing on time is a free online assessment.
There is good news for some partners. The independent guides report that staff at higher partner tiers receive part or all of the fee back. Ask your partner contact before you pay.
A Worked Example: Mara Plans Her Route
Mara runs a two-person AI video studio in London. She uses Claude every day for scripts, shot lists and client reports. Her studio has just joined the Claude Partner Network, so she can book with her studio email.
First, she runs Prompt 2 on her last five working days. The answer is honest. Her work matches the Associate level, and she has never touched the API. So she books Associate for November, at about £75.
Next, she gives the Developer level three months, because she is learning to build with the API. Meanwhile, she builds one small agent that turns a script into a shot list. That agent becomes her masterpiece brief for Architect, Foundations next spring.
Her total for the first three exams is about £265. Professional can wait until her client work reaches enterprise scale.
Common mistake
Booking the biggest exam first. It is tempting to go straight for Architect, Professional because it sounds the most impressive. Instead, choose the exam that matches the work you do every week. A failed attempt costs the full fee again, and the wait before a retake can be ninety days.
